SILVER KNIGHTS CAN’T HOLD LEAD, DROP CONTEST 6-5 TO BARRACUDA

The Henderson Silver Knights fell, 6-5, to the San Jose Barracuda on Wednesday evening. Forward Mathieu Cataford scored his first professional point, while Mason Morelli notched two goals for the Knights.

Cassels opened the scoring for San Jose on the power play to give them an early lead.

Jonas Rondbjerg, assisted by Byron Froese and Dysin Mayo, evened the score at one with a shorthanded goal.

Jakub Brabenec then gave the Silver Knights their first lead of the game with an unassisted goal early in the second period. After San Jose broke up a pass intended for Ryan Dzingel, Brabenec collected the loose puck and fired it in for a 2-1 lead.

The Barracuda would then score three unanswered goals to make it a 4-2 game headed into the second intermission.

Daniil Chayka brought Henderson within one with his first goal of the year. After Adam Cracknell brought the puck out from behind the goal line, Cataford tipped it to Chayka in the slot. He buried it to cut the deficit to one.

Morelli then tied the game at four with his first goal of the game. After Jett Jones forced a takeaway behind San Jose’s net, he forced the puck out in front to Morelli. Daniel D’Amato also collected an assist on the play.

Morelli put Henderson back in the lead with his second of the night. After Christoffer Sedoff’s goal was blocked into the corner, Grigori Denisenko put it back on net but was denied by Chrona. Morelli collected the rebound and scored on a wraparound to make it 5-4.

Gushchin tied the game at five about halfway through the third. Cardwell then notched his second of the game, a shorthanded tally, to secure a 6-5 win for the Barracuda.

The Henderson Silver Knights will return to home ice on Saturday, April 13, where they will take on the Ontario Reign. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. PT.
