The Henderson Silver Knights defeated the San Jose Barracuda, 4-3, on Wednesday evening on the road. Byron Froese earned first star of the night, scoring both the game-tying goal and overtime winner. Jakub Demek also scored his first career AHL goal, and goaltender Jesper Vikman stopped 38 shots for his second win of the season.
The Barracuda got on the board early with a goal at 3:23 in the first period.
Brendan Brisson answered back with a goal off the faceoff. After Demek won the puck in a mad scramble, Brisson put it in the back of the net to tie the game at one.
San Jose added another goal with five minutes left in the first to put them up 2-1 going into first intermission.
Although the Barracuda and Silver Knights traded power-play opportunities throughout the second, the period remained scoreless until its final 20 seconds. San Jose added another tally for a two-goal lead heading into the final frame.
Demek put the Knights within one with an unassisted goal just thirty seconds into the third period. After forcing a turnover behind Henderson’s own blue line, he carried the puck all the way down the ice to score his first career AHL goal.
Froese then tied the game with a power-play goal. Assisted by Grigori Denisenko and Lukas Cormier, he tipped in Denisenko’s long shot to even the score at three.
Froese also scored the overtime winning goal to give the Silver Knights their fifth victory of the season. Jonas Rondbjerg brought the puck into the offensive zone on a breakaway, then collected his own rebound and found Froese at the top of the crease. Froese fired it in to secure a Henderson win.
Vikman stopped 38 of 41 shots on the night for a .926 save percentage. He is now 2-0-0 in starts this season.
The Silver Knights will next play on Friday, October 27, where they will celebrate Nevada Day. Puck drop is set for 11 a.m., and tickets are available here.
